Privacy Policy

Beckon (“Beckon,” “we,” “us”) is a gentle relationship-care app that helps parents stay connected to the people they love. We built Beckon to be a calm, private place — and we take your trust seriously. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Who Beckon is for

Beckon is for adults (parents and caregivers). Children do not have accounts and cannot sign in. A child may answer a few friendly questions about themselves on the parent’s own device (“Get to know me”); those answers are entered by the parent’s choice, stored under the parent’s account, and never used to create a profile for the child or to advertise to anyone.

Information we collect

• Account information — your email address and a password (passwords are stored in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see them).
• Information you add — the names and ages of family members, your relationship status, private notes and reflections, “getting to know you” answers, kept moments, hopes, plans/to-dos, reminders, and answers a child enters about themselves.
• Relationship companion conversations — if you use the optional “Heart to heart” companion, your messages are stored so the conversation can continue. When you are linked with a partner, that conversation is shared between the two of you.
• Notifications — if you enable them, a push subscription token for your device.
• Limited usage signals — anonymous, count-level events (e.g., that the app was opened) to understand whether Beckon is helping. We do not build advertising profiles.

How we use your information

• To provide the app — to show you gentle nudges, your circle, plans, and keepsakes.
• To personalize suggestions with AI — the notes and answers you provide are sent to our AI provider to compose warm, specific suggestions and to power the optional relationship companion and guide. We do not use your content to train third-party AI models.
• To send optional notifications and (if you opt in) text messages and spoken audio of a nudge.
• To keep the app secure and working.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show third-party ads.

Service providers we share data with

We use trusted providers to run Beckon. They process data only to provide their service to us:

• Supabase — secure database, authentication, and serverless functions (your data is stored here, protected by row-level security so each account only sees its own data).
• Vercel — app hosting.
• Anthropic — AI that composes nudges and powers the companion and guide (your relevant content is sent to generate a response).
• ElevenLabs — optional text-to-speech, if you use “Listen.”
• Twilio — optional text-message delivery, if you opt in.

The relationship companion is not therapy

Beckon’s “Heart to heart” companion and AI suggestions offer supportive reflection only. They are not therapy, counseling, or medical advice, and they are not a substitute for a qualified professional. If you or someone you love is in crisis or unsafe, please contact a professional or a crisis line right away — in the US you can call or text 988.

Your choices and rights

• Access & deletion — you can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time in Settings. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
• Notifications — turn push and texts on or off in Settings or your device settings.
• Depending on where you live (e.g., the EU/UK or California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data. Contact us and we’ll help.

Data retention & security

We keep your information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your data is removed. We protect data with encryption in transit and database row-level security so accounts are isolated from one another.

Children’s privacy

Beckon is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Children do not create accounts. Content a child enters is provided through, and controlled by, a consenting parent on the parent’s device.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
